MEDC Board of Director's support a strong educational system as one of the cornerstones of a healthy, vibrant local economy and community, attracting a diverse workforce, professionals and businesses imperative for the future of our community and for economic development.
We believe the students of our community need and deserve safe and functioning facilities in which to receive quality education to prepare them for a successful future and that the Columbine Middle School which is in desperate need of replacement can no longer offer.
RE1-J School District has received a BEST Grant to cover 37% of the cost to build a new Columbine Middle School up to $12.4MM to offset the estimated total cost of $33.7MM, thus leaving the community's share of the cost at $21.3MM
MEDC recognizes that the community will receive a $23.6MM economic impact from the construction portion in 2 years of construction, including 115 jobs with $8.4MM payroll estimating that no more than 50% of the goods and services will come out of Montrose, which economic benefit actually exceeds the community's cost of the project.
MEDC's Board of Director's supports the Montrose County School District Referendum 3A for a mill levy override to match the BEST Grant for the replacement of Columbine Middle School.
